Qualifying Life Event

This Job Aid will guide you through the process of submitting a Qualifying Life Event change in Workday. This will allow you to change your Benefit elections outside of the Open Enrollment period.

Action

Once logged into Workday, select Benefits.

Click Benefits under the Change column.

Click the Benefit Event Type drop-down menu.

There are 4 basic types of qualifying life events.

Birth/Adoption of Child or Guardianship

Change in Coverage (Other insurance, dependent change) For example, you turned 26 and are no longer allowed on your parent's insurance plan or you lose/gain coverage somewhere else.

Change in Marital Status

Marriage or divorce

Change in Status - Domestic Partnership

Select the appropriate event.

Use the calendar to enter an Effective Date (date the qualifying life event occurred).

Click the Add button.

These are the required documents for each of the Qualifying Life Event changes:

Birth/Adoption of Child or Guardianship

Birth Certificate, Birth Confirmation letter from hospital, or adoption paperwork

Change in Coverage (Other insurance, dependent change)

Letter from insurance carrier or employer with the effective date of when coverage began/ended

Change in Marital Status

Marriage Certificate, Divorce papers

Change in Status - Domestic Partnership

Notarized Domestic Partner Affidavit

Enter the title of the document you are uploading into the Comment field.

Click Attach.

Select the appropriate file to upload.

After you have uploaded all required documentation, click Submit.

Now that you have submitted your Qualifying Life Event, you will have the opportunity to change your Benefit Elections.

Click Open to begin.

Please Note: If you are unable to complete the Benefit Elections at this time, you can resume this process at a later time through the Inbox.
